College Catalog
The 2007-2009 College Catalog contains degree requirements for all undergraduate and graduate programs of study, rules that affect students, descriptions of courses, and a list of the faculty and administration of the College. You must know the rules given in the Catalog for your degree program. The Catalog is the document of authority for all students.
Newly Scheduled Classes
Following the publication of the Bulletin, new courses and new sections of courses are added right up to the start of classes. Students can see a list of these new classes on RIConnect as they are added by clicking on "Student Services," then on "Catalog," and then on "Newly Scheduled Classes." When needed, select the appropriate semester/term from the menu provided.
All students register via the Web and are assigned dates and times to register. Find your student category below to find your registration dates.
Please note: Continuing education students are classified as nondegree students in the RIC system. New continuing education students should follow the directions for new nondegree students below.
Degree candidates and current nondegree students can find assigned times on RIConnect.
Degree Candidates (Students who have been admitted to a degree program)
Session One: March 30–May 15
Session Two: March 30–June 26
Current Nondegree Students (Students who have attended RIC in the past but who are not formally admitted to a degree program)
Session One: April 6-May 15
Session Two: April 6–June 26
New Nondegree Students
New nondegree students will need to contact the Records Office to request creation of a RIC account. Records will provide a student ID and RIConnect username and password and a registration appointment date and time.
STEP students and students with senior citizens waivers, unemployment waivers, or disabled veterans waivers
Session One: May 15
Session Two: June 26
The registration system is available from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily.
Please Note: If you register for a course and do not withdraw from the course before the end of the Add/Drop Period, you will be financially responsible for the course. You must pay even if you do not attend.
Summer Session I: Classes begin May 18, 2009 and the Add/drop period extends through May 22. Last day to withdraw from courses without permission is June 6.
Summer Session II: Classes begin June 29, 2009 and the Add period extends through July 6. Last day to withdraw from courses without permission is July 18.
Students will be assessed tuition and fees based on your student category and residence. All nondegree part-time students (undergraduates and graduates) are assessed tuition charges based on the course level. Undergraduate courses are billed at the undergraduate rate and graduate courses are billed at the graduate rate. Tuition and fees are subject to change without notice.

Mandatory Fees

Registration Fee (One Time Fee): $70
Recreation Center Fee: $4 per credit
Library Fee: $5 per credit
Technology Fee: $5 per credit
Athletic Fee (Undergraduate only): $2 per credit
(Laboratory courses, studio art courses, and applied music courses carry
an additional fee. These fees are noted in the course listings.)
*Metropolitan Tuition Policy (MTP)
Effective Summer 2009, students whose permanent address is one of the following Massachusetts/Connecticut cities/towns (click here for list) are eligible for a special tuition discount at Rhode Island College of the in-state tuition rate plus 50%. Using 2008 tuition figures, this represents an annual savings of about $6000 over the out of state rate.
The Connecticut region includes all of Windham County, New London County (except Lyme, East Lyme and Old Lyme) and Tolland County (except Bolton, Hebron, Somers and Vernon).
The Massachusetts region includes all of Norfolk County, Plymouth County, Bristol County, Suffolk County, Dukes County and parts of Worcester County and Middlesex County.
Rates for 2009 Summer Sessions tuition and fees are available on the Bursar’s Office Web page at http://www.ric.edu/bursar/tuition.php.
Students enrolled in academic courses for Summer Sessions may stay in the residence halls. The rate is $600 (no linens) per session or $1200 for both sessions. Housing is available during Summer Sessions only with advanced application, and a $100 deposit is required at the time of application. Certain restrictions apply. For more information and room reservations, contact the Office of Residential Life and Housing at 456-8240 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
