Background

Bruce was instrumental to the development of the Child Welfare Institute. He successfully brought together administrators from the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and Rhode Island College (RIC) to jointly sponsor the Institute, which is located at the School of Social Work at RIC. The mission of the Institute is to positively impact workforce development for existing and future child welfare employees.

In addition to directing the Institute's activities, Bruce conducts training on basic and advanced level interviewing skills for the newly expanded pre-service program. He is also actively advancing the cause of better-prepared and supported child welfare workers through his work on several committees within RIC, DCYF, and in the community. And Bruce oversees the School’s of Social Work Continuing Education Program.
