The pre-service program is a radical departure from how DCYF traditionally prepared and supported new workers. This program offers new Social Caseworker II staff a comprehensive array of classes on contemporary child welfare issues, technology, legal issues, and DCYF policies and procedures over a period of six months. The training program is combined with the assignment of a graduated caseload for the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills learned in the classroom to cases. Students also have the benefit of touring facilities in Rhode Island, such as the Rhode Island Training School, the Adult Correctional Facilities, and Family Court.
