Jan Smith's direct practice background and passion for promoting collaboration across systems represent important areas of focus for the Child Welfare Institute. Jan has worked in public child welfare since 1998. She worked as a Family Service's Social Caseworker II in urban and suburban areas. In 2006 she joined the Child Welfare Institute (CWI) as a Clinical Training Specialist. She has conducted research related to linking cross-system training to improved partnerships between public child welfare and community agencies. She promotes cross-system collaboration through facilitation of community-based trainings.
At CWI, Jan utilizes her experience to develop training curricula and to promote system reform. Jan has served as a guest speaker and presenter at a number of community organizations, institutes of higher learning and at various conferences.
