POLICY FOR TESTING ACCOMMODATIONS FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES

Academic Honesty:

Students who willfully violate the principles of academic honesty (e.g., through cheating on examinations or assignments, etc.) are subject to consequences ranging from an effect on their grade to academic probation or expulsion, depending on the seriousness of the act. (Page 35 of the RIC Student Handbook).

The location for testing accommodations for students with documented disabilities will be provided by your professor. Extended time and/or a separate location will generally be arranged within the professor's department.

Student Responsibility:

• Meet with your professor to discuss your testing accommodation needs at the beginning of the semester and again as each test is scheduled or announced.
• For each test, you must discuss and arrange your testing accommodations with your professor at least one week before the actual test date to ensure your needs are met.
• If documented, discuss your need to have a separate location in which to take your exam in that will help to reduce distractions.
• Please keep in mind that separate rooms will only help to reduce distractions. A distraction-free environment is not guaranteed, however, disposable earplugs are available from Disability Services upon request
• Discuss with your professor the amount of time you will need to complete the exam (usually 1 ½ to double time).

Special circumstances requiring additional accommodations:

• In certain cases, specialized accommodations (for example: scribes, readers, or assistive technology) may need to be arranged in cooperation with Disability Services.
• Call (456-8061) or stop by Disability Services at least one week ahead to schedule your test.
• If it is determined that you need to take your exam through Disability Services:
• Make sure you arrive on time. If you are late, you will cut into your extended exam time and you may not have enough time to complete the exam.
• If you are unable to take your exam as scheduled, you must call your professor. The professor will determine when or if you will be allowed to reschedule.
• If you do not call or show up, your exam will be returned to your professor.
• You will not be allowed to bring personal items (purses, backpacks, cell phones, palm pilots, food and/or beverages, etc.) into the exam. All personal items will be locked up and returned to you upon completion of your exam.
• Only items indicated by your professor on the Accommodation form will be allowed into the testing location.
