About Disability Services

The Disability Services Office is the central location on campus for disability-related services.  We are committed to providing accommodations for students with disabling conditions and supporting them in achieving their academic goals.

Students with documented disabilities are assured reasonable access to the College's programs, opportunities, and activities. As the initial contact point for students, the Disability Services Office endeavors to make students aware of the many opportunities and resources available to them.

Services include one-to-one consultation, registration assistance, referrals to on and off campus support services, information on disabling conditions and Federal regulations, certification for national tests, and assistive technology.   The Disability Services Office serves as an advocate for students with disabilities, and encourages students toward self-advocacy and independence.

The Disability Services Office serves students with all types of disabilities: mobility, hearing, vision, motor, psychological, learning (including attention disorders), speech, chronic disease, and other conditions. While temporary health conditions do not qualify for protection under the law, Rhode Island College nevertheless attempts to assist students who need temporary accommodations.

Formal documentation/evaluation is required for all students. Students with disabilities currently or soon-to-be enrolled in classes at Rhode Island College should self-identify and register with the Disabilities Services Office in order to receive reasonable accommodations.  (See Disability Verification Documentation for more information.)

Please note:  The Admissions Office of Rhode Island College does NOT forward to the Disability Services Office, Disability Verification Documentation that a student submits with his or her application to the College.  Therefore, even if you sent your documentation to another office or department at Rhode Island College (including Admissions), you must still submit this information to the Disability Services Office.
