Program Goals

Graduates of the B.A. in Youth Development will:

  • Understand key elements* of a Youth Development perspective, helping youth to develop:
    • Competence
    • Confidence
    • Connections
    • Caring
    • Critical thinking and social justice
  • Develop strategies for working with youth, adults, family and community.
  • Design youth-centered curricula and programs.
  • Construct environments that promote health, safety, and wellness.
  • Maintain reflective approaches to professional growth and leadership.
  • Understand current trends, challenges, and critical issues in serving diverse youth populations.

The RIC Youth Development program goals are aligned with the Adobe PDFOutside LinkRhode Island Core Knowledge and Core Competencies for After School and Youth Development Professionals.
