English Faculty Writing Awards
Critical and Creative Writing
$500 Each Scholarship
Eligibility: Any English major of at least sophomore standing who will continue as a student at RIC in Fall 2010.
How to apply: Submit to Ms. Aywas in CL 264Student may submit two portfolio, one for each category.
- Portfolio (either critical or creative writing) of no more than 20 pages in which the student's name does not appear - the portfolio should be labeled "critical" or "creative."
- Cover sheet with your name, address, phone number, and student ID.
Donald F. Lyons Scholarship
$100 Scholarship
Elgibility: Any full-time junior or senior English major with the desire and evidence of aptitude to enter the field of teaching who will continue as a student at RIC in Fall 2010.
How to apply: Submit to Ms. Aywas in CL 264
- Letter of interest
- Transcript
- Letter of recommendation from a faculty member
Amy Thompson Prize in Children's Literature
$100 Award
Eligibility: Students majoring or minoring in English with an interest in reading, teaching, writing, and/or scholarship on children's literature.
How to apply: Submit to Ms. Aywas in CL 264
- Brief statement (1-2 page, approximately 300-600 words) about your interest in children's literature

John J. Salesses Scholarship
Amount To Be Announced
Eligibility: Any declared English major who will have at least junior standing in Fall 2010, with a focus in British or American literature and a GPA of 3.0, who will continue as a student at RIC in Fall 2010.
How to apply: Submit to Ms. Aywas in CL 264
- 1-2 page statement about your interest in British or American Literature
