Proficiency Testing

A language Proficiency Test must be taken prior to registering for the ESL workshops. Language Proficiency Tests for the Fall semester are usually administered in April, May, July, and/or early August. Language Proficiency Tests for the Spring semester are usually administered in October, November and December and/or early January.

Students who wish to register in the Fall or Spring semesters must call, write, or e-mail Dr. J. Andrés Ramírez, English as a Second Language Director, so that they can register for the Language Proficiency Test. In their correspondence, students should provide their name, address, telephone number(s), and/or e-mail address. The English Language Proficiency Test is free of charge.

The exam consists of three written parts. Following the written exams, there is a brief oral interview where each student is informed as to the workshop most appropriate for him or her.

Test Schedule

The exam takes about 1 hour. Test takers should not arrive later than 6:00 pm.
