A Note to Instructors
The course "Fundamental Concepts of Biology" is a course geared toward non-biology majors in a general education program. In reviewing these materials, please keep in mind that some details and information have been modified to suit the student population.
The materials presented on this web site are used primarily as an aid in note taking in the lecture portion of the course. The course is presented in a multimedia fashion, allowing text, graphics, animations, videos, and sounds to be presented. The function of this web site, which is an ongoing project, is to provide the students with the text (and some of the graphics) presented during the lecture so that time is not wasted in having to copy what is projected on the screen--the students can concentrate on the explanations of the text. The printed output is formatted so that notes on the material may be written next to the printed text.
Essentially, the notes given here are an outline of the course as I present it. Because of this, care should be taken in using these notes in other courses. They should be used for informational purposes only.
Also, please be aware that much time and effort has gone in to preparing the course and course materials, including this web site. The materials are copyrighted, but I am making them available for review and as a possible source for ideas. Please do not use them for other purposes.
I would be glad to answer any questions about the course and the course materials. I would also like to receive comments, both good and bad (but especially good!), and suggestions about this web site.
Thank you.
