To the discipline:
I am a member of the American Sociological Association and the Eastern
Sociological Association. I am currently serving a three-year term as
secretary/treasurer for the American Sociological Association Section on the
History of
Sociology, for which I also manage the website. I am also the
editor of Critical Mass,
the section newsletter of the American Sociological Association Section
on Collective
Behavior and Social Movements. For the 2008
American Sociological Association meetings, I will be co-organizing a
session on the history of sociological pedagogy. My past editorial
activities include a term as assistant editor for Sociological
Forum;
I have also served as a reviewer for Teaching Sociology,
Sociological Quarterly, Teachers
College Record,
W.W. Norton Publishers, Oxford University Press, and National
Evaluation Systems, among other publishers and publications.
At
Rhode Island College:
I am currently the Sociology Department representative to the College
Honors Committee and serve as the departmental website coordinator.
At New York University:
I served for two years as the student coordinator for the New York
University Sociology Department Workshop on Power, Politics, and
Protest, a forum for faculty and students to present and receive
feedback on their work. Within the sociology department, I served as
co-chair of the Graduate Student Association and was also part of the
graduate curriculum committee, the graduate student conference, and the
job placement committee.
In the university more broadly, I served as a
mentor for teaching assistants and have co-lead the orientation for new
teaching assistants through the Graduate
Student Educational Development Program. I was also a member
of the
organizing committee of GSOC/UAW
Local 2110.
