Admission Requirements

All applicants must submit the following materials as described in Application Materials for Admission
to the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development:
- Application and $50.00 nonrefundable fee. Check
or money order payable to Rhode Island College. Be sure entire application form
is completed.
- One copy of all official transcripts of each undergraduate and
graduate record.
- Teaching certificate (for all school related programs except school psychology).
- Official standardized test scores (Graduate Record Examination or the Miller
Analogies Test). For more information and arrangements for taking tests, contact
Denise Males at (401) 456-8105. If the applicant has previous test scores,
please keep in mind that the GRE and Miller Analogies Test are valid for five
years. NOTE: test results may take as long as 6 weeks to arrive in the graduate
office. Please plan accordingly to meet application deadlines. Candidates with a
previous Master's degree may contact the program coordinator regarding test
requirements.
- Three candidate reference forms WITH 3 accompanying letters of
recommendation. These may be completed by former instructors, employers, or
other professionals who can assess the applicant's potential to do graduate work
and make a positive influence in the field. Letters should address the
applicant's professional background, experiences and potential for success in a
graduate program. These forms AND letters are returned to the applicant and then
must be forwarded to the Graduate Office to complete the application.
- Professional goals essay.
- Performance-based evaluation.
- Other program specific requirements.
International Applicants must also submit:
- Official translated copies of all academic credentials.
- Score of Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or certification of
English proficiency.
- All College health requirements must be met.
- An affidavit of support detailing funds for the educational program is required before an I-20 can be issued.
Applications for admission will not be processed until all materials have
been received by the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development. The
applicant is responsible for assuring that all credentials are received. Upon
completion of an applicant's file, a copy will be sent to the appropriate
department. The departmental Graduate Admissions Committee will evaluate the
application and supporting material and make a recommendation to the associate
dean of the Feinstein School. Upon receiving the departmental recommendation,
the dean will inform the applicant, in writing, of the admission decision. After
you have been recommended by the department, a Plan of Study must be submitted
to the Feinstein School for final acceptance. An advisor will be assigned to you
for this purpose.
