Assessment of Basic Skills Test Requirement for FSEHD Teacher Education Programs
The test of basic skills is required by the RI Department of Education for admission to an approved teacher preparation program. There are three ways to meet the basic skills test requirement. We accept scores from the following (test scores older than five years are not accepted):
- SAT exam: earn at least a 1150 in combined Reading and Math, with at least 530 on each test, OR
- ACT earn at least a 24 in Reading and a 20 in Math, OR
GRE scores earn a composite score of 1100 on the 800 scale test with no less than 465 verbal and 584 quantitative, or a composite score of 300 on the 170 scale test with no less than 151 verbal and 147 quantitative.
Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators test earn a composite score of 468 with Target scores of at least 150 in Mathematics, 156 in Reading and 162 in Writing. When registering for the Core tests please request that ETS send a score report to Rhode Island College (#3724).
* Composite Score Waiver: If you have an overall 3.0 GPA or better, and meet minimum individual scores (with at least 60 credits)
Additional Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators test information
If you have 60 credits and your cumulative GPA is 3.0 or above, you can score 3 points below the target scores and meet FSEHD admissions criteria (e.g. Math 147, Reading 153, Writing 159) without meeting the composite score requirement.
Undergraduate and Graduate applicants
If your cumulative GPA is 2.5-2.99, or you have less than 60 credits, you can be up to 3 points below a target score if your have a composite score of 468 or higher and meet FSEHD admissions criteria (e.g. Math 147, Reading 158, Writing 163, the composite score is 468).
