​Background

Wayne Tikkanen earned his PhD at the University California, Santa Barbara and was Visiting Assistant Professor at Williams College subsequent to a thirty-one year stint at Cal State L. A. He served as Chemistry Chair, GE Director and Program Review Director at Cal State LA. Dr. Tikkanen then took a three year term as Director of the Institute for Teaching and Learning at the Office of the Chancellor, California State University, facilitating faculty development to address CSU systemic faculty development needs including program assessment and curriculum re- design.  PD events were held and evaluations demonstrated their effectiveness. After leaving the Chancellor's office, he redesigned the General Chemistry sequence with support of grants from Academic Technology Services, CSU, utilizing adaptive learning solutions and just in time teaching with ALEKS as the software solution before accepting the Director of Assessment position at Rhode Island College.​​​
