M.A.T. Requirements

Admission Criteria

  1. Successful completion of the program specific Praxis II Content Test administered by Educational Testing Services (ETS) (see Department for specific test titles/numbers/codes and passing scores). Request that ETS send the score report to Rhode Island College (code #3724)Test registration information is available in the OASIS Office, the FSEHD DeanŐs office and at Outside Linkwww.ets.org/praxis.
  2. Submission of transcript(s) from all undergraduate colleges/universities attended evidencing:
    1. Completion of a degree program in one of the required fields (refer to the Rhode Island College Catalog for specifics);
    2. Attainment of a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 in all college level courses culminating in a degree (BS/BA).
  3. Submission of two (2) confidential reference forms in sealed envelopes. One disposition reference form must be completed by a faculty member or a person familiar with your work with children/youth. One disposition reference form must be completed by a work supervisor.
  4. Completion of a Career Commitment Essay (CCE). Information about this essay and a completed/scored evaluation rubric are included in the Admission Portfolio. Career Commitment Essay Due Dates are available here.
  5. Completion of the Technology Competency requirement. See the enclosed brochure or visit www.ric.edu/techcomp for information and an online technology tutorial.
  6. Submit a resume which details educational and work experiences, highlighting experiences with children / youth.
  7. Fulfillment of all additional requirements which a department may have for admission to a particular teacher preparation program/concentration. Students should contact the appropriate department for information about these requirements and answers to questions they may have.
