Assessment of Basic Skills Test Requirement
The test of basic skills is required by the RI Department of Education for admission to an approved teacher preparation program.
For an undergraduate student, there are three ways of meeting the requirement. Sorry, there is no waiver of any kind.
SAT scores (no older than 5 years) at 1150 in combined Reading and Math, with at least 530 each, OR
ACT scores (no older than 5 years) at least 24 Reading and 20 Math, OR-
Praxis I PPST, meeting two conditions: (1) at least 535 total, AND (2) at least 176 in Math and Reading (target 179), and at least 174 in Writing (target 177). Request that ETS send a score report to Rhode Island College (#3724). Take this test in your freshman year. Although RIC will eventually receive your score, print a hard copy of your scores once you access them online.
