Welcome to the Web site of the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development (FSEHD). Rhode Island College and the FSEHD have been preparing outstanding teachers for more than 150 years and we currently prepare the great majority of Rhode Island's teachers and school leaders. We are one of only two colleges in Rhode Island to be NCATE accredited and our programs are also approved by the Rhode Island Department of Education. This Web site is organized to help you find information about the wide array of programs and activities in the FSEHD. I hope it helps to answer your questions about admission processes, program requirements, and various special programs and initiatives. If you have remaining questions please let us know; we are eager to tell you about what we do and to help you become a part of the FSEHD!
The faculty and staff of the FSEHD are committed to excellence in education and other human services, such as community health and agency counseling. We model excellence in teaching, research and service to our various communities. The FSEHD is fortunate to be part of a College that gives primary importance to teaching and to its students. You will enjoy our small classes and one-on-one attention from our dedicated faculty members, many of whom are leaders in their fields. We are committed to preparing educators who know their subject matter; who appreciate technology as a tool for learning; who value and advance diversity; who are skilled professionals; and who are lifelong learners. Our graduates know about and are prepared to keep up with current reforms in education and related areas, and they develop a habit of continual planning, action, and reflection to improve schools and better the lives of children, youth, and families.
The FSEHD places great importance on collaboration with P-12 schools and has established formal partnerships with 25 Rhode Island School districts where our students learn hands-on, by working in their chosen area of study in practica and as student teachers and interns. FSEHD faculty members also provide service to these partnership schools to benefit the teachers and students of the state.
This is an exciting time in Rhode Island College's history and in education in the United States. The FSEHD proudly offers many opportunities to be a part of that excitement. As you explore our Web site I hope you get a sense of our commitment, our diversity, and our responsiveness to students. I encourage you to contact the various departments for more information about their programs. I am sure you will find them to be helpful and supportive as you explore the many facets of the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development.
