First-Year Students

Attention New Anchors!
First-Year Convocation – Wednesday, August 30, 2017

Assemble beginning at 12 noon on the central Quad near Adams Library
Convocation is from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. (free period)

All freshmen are expected to attend First-Year Convocation. Sponsored by Academic Affairs and the Student Success Division, the program is designed to welcome you to RIC’s academic community and give you an opportunity to connect with faculty in your field of interest – all in an informal and entertaining setting.

We’ve had special RIC silicone wrist bands created for the convocation for first-year students and faculty to make it easy for you to identify and connect with one another by the Schools in which your major belongs. Pick yours up at the stations set up at the convocation site between 12 noon and 12:30 p.m. on the 30th.

RIC’s official school colors are gold & white, with burgundy as an accent color. However, each School has its own designated field of study color used by colleges and universities across the country.

We’ll have volunteers on hand (and signs) to help you get the right wrist band (or bands if you’re a double major or undeclared but leaning towards one school!).

Following the brief speaking program, it’s time for connections, photos and ice cream! Use your wrist band as your ticket to try RIC’s signature ice cream treat made by Donovan Dining Center. Here’s where you’ll make some great faculty and staff connections and take part in RIC’s academic good luck tradition. Post a photo taking part in the good luck tradition (we’ll tell you what it is at convocation) – best photo wins a $50 Amazon card!
