New Endowments

Twelve new endowment funds were established in 2007/2008. They include:

  • Thomas & Louise Barry Endowment. Established in 2008. Purpose yet to be determined. $9,216
  • Betty Challgren '65, MAT '69 Endowment. Established in 2008 by Betty Challgren, a recipient of a State scholarship, who wanted to pay tribute to the opportunities she was afforded as a result of her education at Rhode Island College. Scholarship will support a recipient in Elementary Education and English. $14,932
  • Class of 1958 Scholarship Fund. Established in 2008 by the members of the Class of 1958 in honor of their 50th anniversary. Purpose yet to be determined. $12,923
  • Kathleen Conway Endowment. Established in 2008 from an estate gift. Endowment to be used for general purposes. $70,624
  • Kristen Dupre RN '02 Memorial Scholarship. Established in 2008 in memory of Kristen Dupre '02, who passed away from cancer in 2008. $16,027
  • Mary E. Frappier Endowment. Established in 2007. Purpose yet to be determined. $14,701
  • Deborah Griffin Collegiate Scholarship for Students. Established in 2004 in memory of Deborah Griffin, who was killed in a fire in 2000. $10,083
  • Martha A. Kirby-Murphy '23 Endowment. Established in 2007 by Raymond Murphy, Jr. CPA, in memory of his mother who was among the first women to receive a Bachelor's of Education Degree from Rhode Island College of Education. Scholarship will support a graduate student in the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development. $199,231
  • John & Mary Lima Scholarship in Portuguese Studies. Established in 2008 by John Lema in memory of his parents. Annual award to a student studying Portuguese culture and language. $46,526
  • Anthony & Lillian Masi Endowed Scholarship Fund. Established in 2008 by Anthony, a long time professor of history at CCRI. Recipient must begin their education at CCRI and choose to pursue their Bachelor's degree at Rhode Island College, have a 3.0 GPA and demonstrate need. Preference given to decedents of Nicola & Maria Pacitto Masi. $46,108
  • John Nazarian Tribute Fund. Established in 2008 in honor of John Nazarian's retirement as President of Rhode Island College. $60,618
  • Edna Snow '77 Endowed Scholarship. Established in 2007 by Edna Snow '77, who is committed to help future students attain their goals. Scholarship awarded to a full time undergraduate entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year, demonstrates financial need, and is a RI resident, preferably from East Providence or the greater Providence area. $9,407
