John T. Powers, MA, Agency Counseling, 2011

John T. Powers is a veteran's advocate, consultant, and founder of Operation Vets LLC. Powers received his bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Rhode Island and his master's degree from Rhode Island College. In his current position, John provides management consulting services to non-profit organizations, higher education institutions, state and federal government programs, and various other organizations to develop strategies to effectively meet the reintegration issues facing OEF/OIF veterans. John currently serves as a member of the National Advisory Council for Operation College Promise, an initiative of the New Jersey Association of State Colleges & Universities, and a member of a Rhode Island State General Assembly legislative commission to study services available to returning service members within Rhode Island state higher education institutions.

Previously, Powers served as the executive director of Student Veterans of America, a national coalition of student veteran organizations from college campuses across the country and Advisory Council Member to the Military Family Research Institute. He has also contributed to numerous grant review committees and regularly presents at state and national conferences focusing on veterans' reintegration issues and education.
