What is the “typical” profile of a graduate student at RIC? The answer to that question is easy - the best professionals in the state. Most students in RIC’s 35 nationally-recognized graduate programs and 13 graduate certificate programs are professionals returning to school to improve their skills. They share a few characteristics with the undergraduate on campus: many are first-generation students, and most are making personal sacrifices to further their educations and careers. All of them benefit from the incredible commitment and dedication of the faculty in the graduate programs.
Most graduate students hold down jobs, often full-time, and juggle work, family and studies with remarkable aplomb. They are accountants, nurses, social workers, teachers, creative writers, historians, and artists. They are intent on acquiring both academic and professional qualifications as they complete their degrees, and they feel strongly about using their gifts to help others. They maintain a strong tradition of cooperation with each other, offering support along the way and in many cases developing strong networks that last long after they leave RIC.
