Sharon Carver

Sharon Carver, Ph.D., is beginning her fifteenth year as the Director of the Children's School. She earned an A.B. in Psychology and a K-12 Teaching Certificate at Princeton University and then a Ph.D. in child development at Carnegie Mellon. She taught in the Graduate School of Education and the Department of Psychology at the University of Rochester for five years before returning to Carnegie Mellon.

Since coming to the Children's School, Sharon has worked with staff and parents to strengthen the school's program, improve the facilities, build strong connections with the university and earn accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). In 2004, Dr. Carver was promoted to full teaching professor.

She teaches undergraduate courses in Child Development as well as offering a practicum program at the Children's School. She serves on the board of the National Association of Laboratory Schools (NALS). At the graduate level, she teaches a course in educational design. Sharon's husband, Dave, is the pastor of Crafton Heights Presbyterian Church and her daughter Ariel is a sophomore majoring in equestrian studies at Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA
