CAPLE Evaluation Program

The Institute for Portuguese and Lusophone World Studies at Rhode Island College, by agreement with the Universidade de Lisboa (University of Lisbon), Portugal, is the authorized site in the United States accredited to advertise, promote, and administer Portuguese language examinations and certification.

Examinations in Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PFL) at five levels of difficulty may be taken by anyone over the age of 15 who desires to document their level of competency in the Portuguese language for academic and/or professional purposes, such as: interpreters, translators, medical, legal, government and business professionals.
