Current Exhibit
Studs Terkel, 1912-2008
An exhibit about Studs Terkel will be on display on the main floor of the James P. Adams Library through the end of November. The Pulitzer Prize-winning author, who used interviews with Americans from all walks of life to create a unique collection of oral histories, died in his home in Chicago on Oct. 31 at the age of 96.
His books of oral history, on topics such
as the Great Depression, World War II, race relations, and the everyday working
lives of Americans, have been used as required reading for history and sociology
classes on many college campuses. Terkel asked that his epitaph be: "Curiosity
did not kill this cat."
