Honors Program
Purpose
- Encourage development of research skills.
- Recognize outstanding performance in the major.
- Challenge students to discover and study topics of special interest.
Admission to the Honors Program
After accumulation at least 60 credits toward the degree, eligible students
shall apply for admission to the chairperson of the department who will
forward applications to the department Honors Committee. Forms for
application to the Honors Programs are available from the department
secretary. Upon successful review of the application, participation begins
the following semester. Students may apply at anytime between the
accumulation of 60 and 89 credits. No student may be admitted after
accumulation 90 credits.
Criteria for admission
- Enrollment in a major in the department.
- At least a 3.50 GPA in all major and core courses taken prior to admission
to the program.
- At least a 3.25 GPA in all courses taken prior to admission to the Honors
Program (including transfer credits).
- Completed application form (including all required documents).

members of the Honors Committee (see criteria and report form below part

Requirements for Honors in Management & Technology
- Maintenance of a B- or better in all major and core courses taken while a
member of the Honors Program.
- Maintenance of a C- or better in all other courses taken while a member of
the Honors Program, and overall GPA of 3.25 or better and a GPA in the major of
3.50 or better.
- Students must provide current transcripts to the chair of the Honors
Committee for each semester while a member of the Honors Program. (highlight all
major/core courses)
- Completion of an Honors Project while enrolled in two successive 490
independent study courses under the supervision of a member of the department
which is acceptable to the supervisor and to the Honors Committee. The research
project may be a historical study, a policy-analysis, or an empirical study, for
example. Honors Projects must be completed by April 1 of the 'year of
graduation' in the case of spring graduation or by November 1 of the year prior
to graduation in the case of winter graduation. The completed projects must be
presented to the members of the Honors Committee.
- Hand in the research project to the Honors Committee by April 1 or November
1 depending upon the students' final semester. Members of this committee will
evaluate the research project as satisfactory or unsatisfactory. In the case of
unsatisfactory evaluation, the committee may suggest revisions which, if
completed in a timely fashion, may result in a satisfactory evaluation.
Evaluation of project will be based upon criteria announced prior to project
production (see below part D). Students may appeal unsatisfactory evaluation of
a project to the Honors Committee, Department Advisory Committee, the
Chairperson, the Center Director, the VP for Academic Affairs, and the President
(in this order) but must accompany such appeals by substantiating evidence of an
incorrect or unfair evaluation.
Dismissal from the Honors Program
- Failure to maintain required grades and GPAs will result in dismissal from
the Honors Program at the beginning of the semester following the unsatisfactory
performance.
- Credit and grades will be granted for the 490 courses in which a dismissed
student is enrolled based on the performance in these courses. Students will be
allowed to complete research in progress should dismissal from Honors Program
occur, but students will not be recommended for Honors at graduation.
- If the student fails to achieve satisfactory evaluation of the project or to
satisfactorily revise the project upon recommendation of the Honors Committee,
the grades for the 490 will be recorded on the transcript but without an
indication of Honors.
