Rhode Island's First Chapter of Upsilon Pi Epsilon Approved at RIC

Rhode Island College's new chapter of Upsilon Pi Epsilon, the international computing honor society, has just been approved and will hold its first induction ceremony on Friday May 6, from 8-10 AM in Fogarty 050. This is a joint effort of the Computer Science and Computer Information Systems programs. Congratulations to all inductees: the alumni and undergraduates who are being recognized for their outstanding academic records and the faculty who are being recognized for their contributions to the computing programs at RIC.

Note: Inductees need at least a 3.0 GPA (both in the major and overall) and must be in the top 35% of their peer group. Our alumni databases are sometimes incomplete and letters aren't always delivered. If you're an alum of one of the CS/CIS programs at RIC and think you qualify, please contact us!

RIC Awarded NSF Grant to Support Students in Science, Computing, and Mathematics

RIC has received a grant of approximately $600,000 from the National Science Foundation to provide scholarships for students majoring in mathematics, computer science, biology, chemistry, or physics, starting in Fall 2009 and continuing through the 2012-2013 academic year. Scholarship winners will receive up to $5000 each per year, depending on need.

Ten students will be admitted to the program each year. They will become an important part of the STEM community at Rhode Island College, taking carefully selected courses together for their first two years as part of a Learning Community and developing strong relationships with faculty and peers in the STEM disciplines. They will be introduced to research as freshmen, join a research group as sophomores, and design and complete a research project in their junior and senior years under the guidance of a faculty mentor in their field.
