Ad Hoc Subcommittee on Community Engagement and Experiential Learning

In spring 2013, The Committee on College Mission and Goals (Article XII, Section 2) established an ad hoc subcommittee on Community Engagement and Experiential Learning to inform mission statement revision and strategic planning. The committee was charged with:

  • Mapping civic/community engagement for the institution
  • Clarifying the language of engagement at RIC
  • Making recommendations for mobilizing and moving the institution forward.

The charge was to be expedited over the course of four meetings. The resulting report would be used to inform mission statement revision, strategic planning, and the future of engagement at Rhode Island College.

The subcommittee report, with a preliminary plan for a Center for Community Engagement, was submitted to The Committee on College Mission and Goals on October 7, 2013.

On November 8, 2013 Mission and Goals presented the report and plan to Council with the recommendation that the preliminary proposed plan for a Center for Community Engagement be included in the college’s new strategic plan.
