Background

Thomas Lawlor teaches voice at Rhode Island College. He began his professional career as a member of the D'Oyly Carte Opera Co. He played, over nine years, all the principal bass-baritone roles, before moving on to a career in Grand Opera. He has sung more than 65 roles with all the major British and Irish opera companies, including; The Royal Opera, English National Opera, Sadlers Wells Opera, Opera North, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Dublin Grand Opera and Opera Northern Ireland. He has sung with all the major orchestras in Britain, including the RPO, LSO, and the LPO. He has performed at festivals worldwide including; Singapore Festival of the Arts, Wexford Festival, Aldburg Festival, Valencia Festival (Spain).

For may years he served as vocal adjudicator for the British Federation of Festivals. In 1994 he founded Beavertail Opera Productions and is now Artistic Director of that company. He has made several recordings for Decca and MCA Classics. He played Pish Tush in the Warner Bros. movie of The Mikado, and Bouncer in Brent Walker Films movie of Cox and Box.
