Background

Joseph Damian Foley is Associate Professor of Music at Rhode Island College, where his responsibilities include studio instruction of all undergraduate and graduate trumpet students, coaching of brass chamber ensembles, and master classes in brass performance. He is also a member of the faculty ensemble, the Narragansett Brass Quintet.

Since1990 he has held the position of Principal Trumpet in the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra. As a former and founding member of the Atlantic Brass Quintet, he has performed in over a dozen countries on four continents. A highly sought after orchestral musician, he regularly appears with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops Orchestra, and the Boston Ballet Orchestra. In addition, he has performed with such ensembles as the New York Philharmonic, the Festival Ballet of London, and the All American College Orchestra at EPCOT Center. As a soloist he has performed with the Boston Pops Orchestra, the Boston Classical Orchestra, the Boston Landmarks Orchestra, the Rhode Island Philharmonic, and the Pro Arte Chamber orchestra.

He has over fifty arrangements for brass to his credit, several of which have been recorded by the Atlantic Brass Quintet. He is highly sought after as a clinician and has presented master classes across the United States and abroad. He holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in trumpet performance from Boston University. His principal teachers include Roger Voisin, Rolf Smedvig, Peter Chapman, Vince Penzerella, Bob McCoy, James Pandolfi, and master teacher Arnold Jacobs.
