New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC)
What is NEASC?
The New England Association of Schools and Colleges,
NEASC, accredits more than 2000 public and private institutions, from pre-K through graduate school, throughout the New England region. Typically, accredited institutions are visited every 10 years. Rhode Island College is just beginning a two-year process of preparing for our next visit, which will occur in late October of 2011.
NEASC Self-Study
Part of the re-accreditation is a Self-Study, with supporting documents, that examines every area of the institution. The visiting team will use the self-study as a basis for their evaluation of the College.
NEASC evaluates colleges and universities based on eleven Standards each covering an area of the institution: mission, planning, faculty, student, facilities, finances etc. The self-study will include a section corresponding to each of these standards. Each section will be researched, analyzed, and written by a committee of faculty, staff, and students, overseen by a Steering Committee. Approximately 90 members of the faculty, staff, administration, and students are included in the committees, representing a broad cross-section of the College community.
