Wednesday Chamber Music Series spring 2011 season announced

Judith Lynn Stillman
The Wednesday Chamber Music Series at RIC will feature four concerts in the spring 2011 presentation, "Masterworks at Sapinsley Hall."

The concert schedule was announced by series artistic director Judith Lynn Stillman, RIC music professor and artist-in-residence. Stillman, a pianist, recently served as visiting artist-in-residence in China, where she presented concerts and master classes at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing.

The 50-minute recitals will be held on Wednesdays in the Nazarian Center’s Sapinsley Hall. An informative and intimate question-and-answer session with the artists follows each performance.

Mary Phillips (Photo: I CANDI)
Dynamic mezzo-soprano Mary Phillips and Judith Lynn Stillman will present two concerts on Feb. 9, at 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Phillips, who holds degrees in music and theater from RIC, has gone on to a major operatic career, including leading roles with the New York Metropolitan Opera, solo appearances with the New York Philharmonic, and as guest artist with prestigious opera companies and orchestras nationally and internationally.

“Mezzo-soprano Mary Phillips gave a radiant performance as Fricka, projecting both the pain of the neglected wife and the fury of the goddess whose rites have been flouted.”

The RIC faculty ensemble Narragansett Brass Quintet will perform on March 23 at 1 p.m. The group will present an exciting and varied program.

Carol Wincenc
Flutist Carol Wincenc and Judith Lynn Stillman will collaborate in an April 13 performance at 1 p.m.

One of today's international stars of the flute, First Prize Winner of the Walter W. Naumburg Competition, and Juilliard faculty member, Wincenc has appeared as soloist with major orchestras around the world and has premiered works written for her by many of today's most prominent composers.

“Ms. Wincenc performed with theatrical flair and vivid tone.”
