Water main replacement at RIC continues

Beginning the week of May 23, the contractor will have two crews installing water mains over the next 6-8 weeks in the following locations:
Crew 1 – Library Road from the greenhouse to Gaige Hall
Crew 2 – Dorm Lane from Willard Hall to College Road, and College Road from Sweet Hall to Henry Barnard School
Parking will be restricted along Library Road. Campus police will be onsite for traffic coordination.
The work is funded through the ARRA (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009). This large and complex project must be completed by Sept. 30, 2011, to be eligible for full federal funding.
The project will include replacing approximately 10,000 linear feet of water main throughout campus over the next several months. The water main being replaced was originally installed in the late 1950s and early 60s. These water mains convey both fire and domestic water supply and are a critical component of the college's fire protection network on campus. In addition, the project includes the installation of two water booster pump stations that will increase water pressure campus-wide and further improve RIC's fire protection system.
