Campus water main project nearing completion
Over the past several months RIC has been replacing water mains on the main campus. We are pleased to report that all of the water main installation work has been completed. The remaining work is scheduled to be complete by the end of October.
The remaining work includes:
• Installing two underground booster pumping stations. These stations are located at the points where we are supplied from Providence water at the campus perimeter near Mt. Pleasant Avenue and behind the running track. This work is underway and is scheduled to be completed in October.
• Various restoration work. This includes grass restoration and sidewalk repair, which will be occurring over the next couple of weeks.
• Paving. College Road, Library Road, 1st Avenue, and the access road between Willard/ Weber and Thorp/Sweet residence halls will all be repaved. This work is currently scheduled for the last two weeks of September.
We appreciate your cooperation and patience during this important project.

This project is an ARRA (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009) funded project. Approximately 10,000 linear feet of water main were replaced throughout campus over the past several months. The water main replaced was originally installed in the late 1950s and early 1960s. These water mains convey both fire and domestic water supply and are a critical component of our fire protection network on campus. In addition, the project includes the installation of two water booster pump stations which will increase water pressure campus wide and further improve our fire protection system.
