RIC Chamber Orchestra, small ensembles in concert, April 1

The concert, conducted by John Sumerlin, will feature a Concerto for two cellos by Vivaldi, the “Gypsy Airs” by Sarasate for Violin and Orchestra, featuring RIC student Ruta Nikitska on violin, and the “Variations on a Theme by Tchaikovsky” by Arensky.
Also on the program will be the String Quartet in E Minor by Mendelssohn, and movements of the Beethoven Quartet #5, Op.18, in A Major.
Sumerlin, violinist and conductor of the RIC Chamber Orchestra, has been a professor of music at the college since 1989. He teaches violin and viola, is the head of the chamber music program, and is a founding member of the RIC faculty ensemble Proteus String Quartet.
