On Nov. 2 at 7:40 a.m. Rhode Island Public Radio will air an interview with members of RIC’s Latin Students’ Organization (LASO) on the upcoming election.

Monica Vallecarmenatty, president of LASO; Ruby Lazo, secretary; and Rowan Valle and Servio Gomez, public relations specialists created a lively roundtable discussion.

When asked what issues mattered most to them in this election, Gomez said “campaign finance, civil liberties, finance issues, and economic disparity. And all of these are interrelated,” he said.

When asked whom they had voted for in the last election, Vallecarmenatty replied Obama and that she would vote for him again.

“That’s like saying we’re going to vote for the devil we know,” replied Valle, a student veteran who served in Iraq.

“We’re arguing about the two devils we hate,” said Gomez, “but we’re not acknowledging that we should have more options. Jill Stein (the Green Party Presidential Ticket) was arrested for trying to get into the presidential debate. She’s on the ballot. Nonetheless, our debates only include blue and red – Democrats and Republicans. There’s no real choice; it’s an illusion of choice.”

Be sure to catch this lively discussion.
