RIC Community Celebrates Lighting of Holiday Tree
About 200 people – including dozens of current and former RIC faculty and staff, as well as friends from the community – joined RIC President Nancy Carriuolo and her husband, Ralf, for the traditional lighting of the holiday tree at the President’s House last night.
With jingle bells in hand, Carriuolo and RIC President Emeritus John Nazarian led the crowd in singing Christmas carols before the tree was lit about 5 p.m.
“I really enjoy the holiday party at Rhode Island College because it brings together members of the campus community – people who retired over the years come, as well as a great many friends of the college,” Carriuolo said. “It’s great to be able to get together and reflect on the year that passed and look forward to another year together.”
Guests were treated to an assortment of hors d’oeuvres, including a variety of handmade candies that were a gift from Johnson and Wales University President Mim Runey. George Thomas of the Pequot Nation also presented Carriuolo with a hand-crafted beaded medicine bag.
Carriuolo also expressed her appreciation to the many members of the professional staff who assisted with the event.
