Graduating in May? Attend RIC's Grad Fest on Wednesday for Tips, Information



Rhode Island College students planning to graduate this May should make sure they’ve applied for graduation through the college website and consider attending Grad Fest on Wednesday (April 3) to learn about commencement activities and to order caps, gowns and other items.

Information for undergraduate and graduate degree students can be found on the college website at www.ric.edu/commencement.

For Baccalaureate Degree Candidates:

·      Review the degree audit previously sent to all potential graduates, and make sure that all graduation requirements are fulfilled. Contact the Records Office for questions or additional information.

·      Verify curriculum, major and minor (if applicable) with advisor or department.

·      Know the school that will award the degree. This will help identify the color of the hood and tassel.

·      Resolve all financial obligations. Also arrange a student loan exit interview.

For Graduate Degree Candidates:

Grad Fest will be held Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. Graduating students can purchase caps and gowns, academic regalia, class rings, personalized graduation announcements and diploma frames.

The cost for baccalaureate’s cap, gown, hood and tassel is $45.75. The cost for Master’s degree or CAGS cap, gown, hood and tassel is $48.75. Orders for graduates with special needs should be placed in advance. Please contact Peg Mead at (617) 750-2723 or peg.mead@balfour.com for special orders.

Students unable to purchase their cap and gown at that time can purchase them at the Campus Store by phone at (401) 456-8025 or email at mmare@ric.edu or bookstore@ric.edu.

Doctoral candidates should arrange for their regalia directly through the commencement office. The cost for rental of a doctoral tam and robe is $50. For more information, contact Patricia Nolin at (401) 456-9854 or at pnolin@ric.edu.

Grad Fest also gives students the chance to learn about career opportunities, alumni benefits and extended privileges, and Senior Week activities.

Some other important dates to note:

The Cap and Gown Day Convocation will be held on May 1 at 12:30 p.m. in the Auditorium in Roberts Hall. Rehearsal for baccalaureate commencement is scheduled for May 17 at 1 p.m. at the baseball and softball fields behind Gaige Hall, or in the main gymnasium of the Murray Center if it rains. The commencement exercises will be May 18 at 9:30 a.m. on the Campus Quad.

Commencement for Graduate students is scheduled for May 16 at 5:30 p.m. in the Murray Center. There will be no rehearsal.
