'Anchored in Tradition'- RIC Homecoming 2013 Oct.1-5

Rhode Island College is “Anchored in Tradition” during Homecoming 2013, a celebratory week filled with exciting activities and events from Oct. 1-5.

“The purpose of Homecoming 2013 is to connect alumni, students, and community members to celebrate the spirit of RIC,” said Katherine Brezina, executive director of alumni affairs.

Homecoming events begin on Tuesday, Oct. 1, with a Homecoming Wiener Cook-off. The sampling is free and will be served on a first come basis. Also, the Shinn Study Abroad Fund will be screening four international films throughout the day at its International Film Festival.

The following day, Wednesday, Oct. 2, there will be a Henry Bernard School Decorating Contest and a Residence Hall Decorating Contest. Both contests follow the Homecoming 2013 theme. Winners will be announced at Friday night’s Homecoming Festival. In the evening RIC faculty display their work to students, alumni and the community at the Faculty Art Exhibit.

On Thursday, Oct. 3, the class of 1964 will have its 50th Reunion Homecoming Luncheon at President Nancy Carriuolo’s home. And later that night, GrooveBoston stops at RIC and gives students an unforgettable musical experience.

Friday, Oct. 4, the RIC Homecoming Festival will bring the RIC community together for a barbeque, fun games and a Homecoming parade featuring RIC decorated golf carts. Following the festival, all alumni and students are invited to participate in the RIC Trivia Challenge, and also to join Carlos Gonzalez and the Mambo Pati Dance Company for a zesty night of salsa dancing.

The last day of events, Saturday, Oct. 5, is a day for RIC student and alumni athletes to show off their athletic skills in the alumni tennis tournament and the Anchorman 5K. There will also be a Homecoming Brunch and an Athletics Department Hall of Fame event.

“We are really excited about the Homecoming activities this year,” said Brezina. “We hope the varied schedule of events will showcase all of the wonderful things that are happening here.”
