Campanella Helps Anchorwomen 
Earn 7-2 Win Over Plymouth State



Providence, R.I. – Sophomore Sadie Campanella’s (Chepachet, R.I.) win at No. 1 singles helped Rhode Island College defeat Plymouth State 7-2 in the Little East Conference women’s tennis action at the RIC Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.

Campanella secured the victory for the hosts (11-2, 5-1 LEC) with a 6-3, 6-1, win over PSU (6-3, 3-2 LEC) sophomore Nitsa Ioannides (El Cajon, Calif.).

Ioannides and freshman Nikki Lund (Hingham, Mass.) took down Campanella and freshman Jorgie Martin (Smithfield, R.I.), 8-4, at No. 1 doubles.

The Anchorwomen took a 2 -1 lead after doubles as the freshmen tandem of Julie Reddy (Greenville, R.I.) and Noelle Tiberi (Smithfield, R.I.) won at the second spot, 8-2. Junior captain Chelsea Brown (Wallingford, Conn.) and sophomore Tressa Cannata (Cranston, R.I.) won at No. 3 doubles, 8-3.

In singles action, Brown defeated senior Jane Duggan (Saunderstown, R.I.), 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2, while Cannata downed Lund, 6-2, 6-2 at third singles.

Reddy earned a 6-0, 6-0 shutout win over senior Chelsea Thibault (Manchester, N.H.) at No. 4, while Tiberi won, 7-5, 6-0, over freshman Rachel Gustafson (Belchertown, Mass.), 7-5, 6-0, at No. 5.

PSU junior Rosalie DiRado (Ganesvoort, N.Y.) picked up the lone singles win for the visitors, downing Martin, 7-5, 2-6, 10-2, at sixth singles.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference play at home against Salem State on Saturday, Oct. 12 (1 p.m.).
