Five RIC Wrestlers Recognized by N.E. Wrestling Association



Providence, R.I. – Five Rhode Island College were recognized by the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) for their respective performances during the 2013-14 season.

Senior Silas Murray (Brentwood, N.Y.) was named a First Team NEWA All-Star at 133 lbs. Murray earned All-American status with a seventh place finish at the 2014 NCAA Div. III Wrestling National Championships on March 15. He earned All-NCAA Northeast Regional honors with a third place finish at the Regional Championships on March 2. Murray, who was named team MVP, finished the season with a 27-3 overall record to go along with 45 takedowns, five reversals, 19 escapes, 13 near-falls and one pin. He placed first at the Mt. St. Vincent Dolphin Invitational on Jan. 18 and second at the Doug Parker Invitational on Nov. 23.

Junior Jonathan Murray (Brentwood, N.Y.) was named a First Team NEWA All-Star at 125 lbs. He qualified for the NCAA Div. III Wrestling National Championships after earning All-NCAA Northeast Regional honors with a third place effort on March 2. Murray was also named a Scholar All-American by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) for the second consecutive season. For the season, he was 20-6 with 39 takedowns, 13 reversals, 18 escapes, 18 near-falls and four pints. He placed first at the Mt. St. Vincent Dolphin Invitational on Jan. 18.

Sophomore Ricondo Cole (Cranston, R.I.) was named a Second Team NEWA All-Star at 141 lbs. Cole earned All-NCAA Northeast Regional honors with a fifth place finish on March 2. For the season, Cole was 24-5 with 62 takedowns, one reversal, eight escapes, 19 near-falls and eight pins. He placed first at the Doug Parker Invitational on Nov. 23 and sixth at the Mt. St. Vincent Dolphin Invitational on Jan. 18.

Sophomore Brandon Conrad (East Bridgewater, Mass.) was an Honorable Mention NEWA All-Star at 165 lbs. For the season, he went 15-12 with 28 takedowns, five reversals, 21 escapes, 14 near-falls and four pins. Conrad placed fifth at the Mt. St. Vincent Dolphin Invitational on Jan. 18.

Senior Brian Nicoll (Plaistow, N.H.) was an Honorable Mention All-Star at 285 lbs. He earned All-NCAA Northeast Regional honors with a fifth place finish on March 2. For the season, Nicoll went 18-5 with 15 takedowns, two reversals, 19 escapes, four near-falls and five pins. He placed fourth at the Doug Parker Invitational on Nov. 23.

Head Coach Jay Jones Anchormen placed 42nd (59 teams) at the 2014 NCAA Div. III Wrestling National Championships on March 15. RIC placed seventh (18 teams) at the 2014 NCAA Northeast Regional on March 2. During the season, RIC won (15 teams) the Mt. St. Vincent Dolphin Invitational on Jan. 18 and finished fourth (17 teams) at the Doug Parker Invitational on Nov. 23 and at the NEWA Duals on Jan. 26. The Anchormen were 16-4 overall and 10-3 against NEWA competition in dual action.
