Illuminated Walkway celebration – 9-9-09
It was a night of nines...
On Sept. 9, Nancy Carriuolo, ninth president of Rhode Island College, hosted a 9 p.m. celebration of the new President's Illuminated Walkway on the Rhode Island College campus. School spirit was on display, as many wore RIC colors and clothing to the event, which included food and music from campus radio station WXIN.
The Illuminated Walkway – designed in the shape of the number “9” – is a secure, pedestrian-friendly, cross-campus route that extends from the residence halls on the western side of the campus to the School of Social Work on the east campus. The outdoor corridor extends just over a mile in length.
During the ceremony, attendees took a stroll along the walkway, and heard a demonstration of the new blue-light emergency phone system.
“The Illuminated Walkway will make our attractive campus even safer and more enjoyable for our students, faculty, staff and neighbors,” Carriuolo said.
The walkway was funded by donations not expended for Carriuolo’s presidential inauguration last November.
