RIC mourns passing of Ivy Locke, VP for administration and finance

Ivy Denise Locke, Rhode Island College’s vice president for administration and finance, died suddenly on Friday morning, March 26 at Rhode Island Hospital after a respiratory illness. She was 52.

Ivy Locke's funeral will be held in Atlanta, Ga., on Saturday, April 3. A memorial service in her honor will be held at RIC on Monday, April 5, from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom.

Locke had been with the college since January 2006.

Her career in higher education spanned more than 25 years, including 11 years as a financial administrator. Prior to RIC, she served as vice president for business and finance at Southeast Missouri State University.

Before that, Locke held the position of vice president for fiscal affairs at Stillman College, and was a faculty member at Florida State University from 1990-98, where she was assistant professor of finance.

Locke earned a PhD from the University of Florida, an MBA from Washington University, and a BBA from Emory University. She also attended the Institute of Educational Management at Harvard University. In addition, she was a CPA, held a real estate license from the state of Georgia, and had private sector experience in finance and accounting.

“Ivy loved Rhode Island and Rhode Island College. She was an important part of the leadership team at RIC and was also active in the state,” said RIC President Nancy Carriuolo. “She will be greatly missed.”

A native of Atlanta, Ga., she is survived by her parents, a brother, nieces and a nephew.
