RIC to host festival of Portuguese culture April 25


Festival do Mundo Lusófono: A Celebration of the Portuguese-speaking World will be held Sunday, April 25, at 2 p.m. in RIC’s Gaige Hall Auditorium.

The event is sponsored by the Institute For Portuguese And Lusophone World Studies and Day Of Portugal and Portuguese Heritage In Rhode Island. Students of Portuguese from preschool through college will perform.

Among the scheduled events:

• The one-act play, “A Fada Oriana,” by the Portuguese Theatre Workshop of RIC

• Presentations by the International Charter School, Escola Portuguesa da Casa dos Açores da Nova Inglaterra and Mount Hope High School

• Presentation of awards to the winners of the 2010 Calendar Art Contest

• Presentation of the John A. and Mary V. Lima Scholarship in Portuguese Studies
