Don Tencher honored by NACDA for third time as Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year

The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) named RIC’s Don Tencher as the Northeast Div. III Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year at its annual convention last week. It is the third time in his career that Tencher has received the award.

Walker Jones of Under Armour.
Tencher, who is well into his second decade as the college’s director of athletics, has worked to guide the athletics program forward in extremely tough economic times to ensure the quality of RIC’s student-athlete experience.

The Anchormen and Anchorwomen have experienced great success as evidenced by the achievements of the past year. Four teams were ranked in the top 25 nationally, while three competed in postseason NCAA Tournaments.

Tencher has spearheaded a student-athlete support program that has made a significant impact on the academic performance of RIC’s student-athletes. The program includes the future construction of a new facility to house the development and support of the “total student-athlete.”

Tencher continues to be the program’s most active and effective fundraiser in an effort to improve RIC athletic facilities and programs. The department continues to raise a significant portion of its operating budget, plus all monies related to special projects. In addition to the construction of the student-athlete support center, the college is embarking on the construction/renovation of a $12 million recreation/intercollegiate complex that further supports the college’s role as one of the state’s premier athletic venues.

In addition to his duties at the college, Tencher is the chair of the NCAA's Playing Rules Oversight Panel.
