New Student Convocation

First Year Convocation

Attention New Anchors!
New Student Convocation – Friday, August 24, 2018 at 2:45 p.m.

Assemble beginning at 2:15 p.m. on the central Quad near Craig-Lee
Convocation is from 2:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.

All new students (first-years and transfers) are expected to attend New Student Convocation. Sponsored by Academic Affairs and the Student Success Division, the program is designed to welcome you into RIC’s academic community and give you an opportunity to connect with faculty, staff, administrators and fellow new students– all in an informal and entertaining setting. This year we are also welcoming our new transfers and families of all new students.

We’ve had special RIC silicone wrist bands created for the convocation for new students and faculty to make it easy for you to identify and connect with one another by the Schools in which your major belongs. Pick yours at resident and commuter check-in stations earlier in the day. We’ll also have a table at the convocation site between 2:15 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. if you missed the earlier check-in.

RIC’s official school colors are gold & white, with burgundy as an accent color. However, each School has its own designated field of study color used by colleges and universities across the country.

White:
Faculty of Arts & Sciences
Light blue:
Feinstein School of Education & Human Development
Apricot:
School of Nursing
Taupe:
School of Business
Citron:
School of Social Work
Burgundy:
Exploring Majors

We’ll have volunteers on hand (and signs) to help you get the right wrist band (or bands if you’re a double major or undeclared but leaning towards one school!).

Following the brief speaking program featuring Dr. Jessica Pearson from Music, Theatre & Dance, it’s time for connections, photos and ice cream!

Use your wrist band as your ticket to try RIC’s signature ice cream treat made by Donovan Dining Center. Here’s where you’ll make some great faculty and staff connections and take part in RIC’s academic good luck tradition.

See you there!
