Scholarships and Awards
Students enrolled in the Department of Nursing are eligible to apply for a number of scholarships.
All scholarships have a deadline of April 1st.
Deadlines and amount of monetary award are subject to change and should be confirmed with the agency or group awarding each scholarship.
The Ellen S.Brady Nursing Scholarship
The Ellen S. Brady Scholarship has been established, by her family, to remember Ellen's contributions to the field of nursing and to the local community. Ellen was a graduate of Rogers High School, and University of Rhode Island's College of Nursing. She worked for twenty-six years at Newport Hospital as a member of the IV therapy team. She was an active member, and officer of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians in Newport, and also an officer at the same level of the LAOH.
Candidates must be residents of Newport County, and a graduate from a high school in Rhode Island. Scholarships are open to individuals accepted into, and in attendance at any accredited nursing program in Rhode Island. Students enrolled at both the Undergraduate and Graduate levels are eligible to apply. Candidates must also be sponsored by a member of the AOH or LAOH.
Coursey Enterprises Student Scholarships
We at Coursey Enterprises are offering first year nursing students a scholarship. We are offering (1) $250.00 Fall scholarship and (1) $250.00 Spring scholarship for 1st year semester RN students and (1) $250.00 Fall semester and (1) Spring semester scholarship for PN students. Students who wish to apply must meet the following criteria:
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Submit Name, Address, Phone Number
- Submit School Name, Address, and Phone Number, Graduation Date
- Write a 200 word essay on "Why I Want To Be A Nurse".
- Send a picture of yourself when your essay is submitted.
- Agree to allow Coursey Enterprises to use your name and picture on our website.
Those who apply for the Spring scholarship must apply between Sept. 1st through Dec. 1st . The scholarship will be awarded on Jan. 1st .
Those who apply for the Fall scholarship must apply between Feb. 1st through May 1st . The scholarship will be awarded on June 1st

Nondas Hurst Voll Scholarship 2013 Call for Applications
The Nondas Hurst Voll Scholarship awards financial support to single mothers who are transitioning off public assistance to begin or continue studies in higher education.
Applications must be received by 5:00pm on Friday, April 19, 2013.

ANY College Student (grad or undergrad) may apply for the Feb. 15th, 2013 deadline. It is a new year and applicants are needed for College Improvement's Cash Scholarship. Students may apply directly and get details at

AACN Student Scholarships
Hurst Review Services and the AACN are partnering to offer a scholarship program to recognize and reward outstanding students in pre-licensure nursing programs. Two scholarships in the amount of $2,500 will be distributed each Fall and Spring to students enrolled in AACN member institutions at

Army Nurse Corps Association 2013 Scholarship Program
In 2013, The Army Nurse Corps Association (ANCA) will be selecting up to 15 baccalaureate or higher degree nursing and anesthesia students to receive $3,000 scholarships.
To be eligible, applicants should meet one of the following criteria:
- Currently enrolled baccalaureate or advanced degree nursing or nurse anesthesia students who are serving or have previously served any branch of a component of the US Army (Active Army, Army National Guard and Army Reserve).
- Army Nurse Corps officers in a component of the US Army enrolled in a baccalaureate or advanced degree nursing or nurse Anesthesia program not funded by a component of the US Army.
- Enlisted soldiers serving in a component of the US Army enrolled in a baccalaureate nursing or nurse anesthesia program not funded by a component of the US Army.
- Nursing or anesthesia students whose spouse or either parent is serving of has served in a component of the US Army.
For 2013, the scholarships will be presented in memory of Captain Bruce K. Clark, a member of the United States Army Nurse Corps who, in May 2012, gave his life in service to his country while deployed to Afghanistan. He was a graduate of The College of Brockport, State University of New York and served previous assignments at Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, HI and William Beaumont Army Medical Center, El Paso, TX.

The SNARI/RISNA Partners in Nursing Scholarship

two years in return for four years of full-time employment. Army Nurse Corps (ANCA) Scholarship Program
The purpose of the Army Nurse Corps Association (ANCA) Education Fund is to award scholarships to students attending accredited baccalaureate or graduate nursing and anesthesia programs. Other non-traditional nursing programs may also be eligible. Scholarship funds are sent to the school to be managed for the student and not sent directly to the student.

Mary Brunell Scholarship
The Mary Brunell Scholarship Fund has been established within the Rhode Island College Foundation by Mary Brunell, Ed.D., RN. The purpose of the scholarship is to assist nursing students who have demonstrated interest in gerontological nursing. During her tenure as the Vice President for Patient Services at Roger Williams Medical Center, Mary Brunell enjoyed a strong professional relationship with the Department of Nursing at Rhode Island College and, in recognition of her own commitment to and interest in gerontological nursing, endowed the scholarship to provide financial help to students who shared that interest.

Karla Carroll Memorial Nursing Scholarship
Karla Carroll was a graduate of the Rhode Island College nursing program. She loved nursing and dedicated herself to helping people. She was killed in a plane
crash. In her honor, her mother has funded the Karla Carroll Memorial Nursing Scholarship. An annual award of $1000 will be made to a junior or senior level nursing student who loves nursing and helping people as Karla did.

William F. Ciambrone Memorial Endowed Scholarship In Nursing

Connecticut Native American Intertribal Urban Council
This scholarship was developed to assist Native American students residing in and attending school in Massachusetts, Connecticut, or Rhode Island. The applicant must be enrolled in or accepted to a Nursing or Pharmacy Program. This scholarship is being funded by CVS Pharmacy

Debra A. Dumont Memorial Scholarship
Up to $300. awarded annually to a junior or senior nursing student who is working in health care while completing his/her degree. Selection is based on commitment to nursing as reflected in an essay, work status and R.I. residency.

The Kristen A. Dupré Memorial Scholarship
In 2011, the family and friends of Kristen Dupré established the Kristen A. Dupré Memorial Scholarship Fund. Kristen, a third generation nurse, worked in the Emergency Room of Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island until July 2007 when her life was cut short due to illness at the age of only 26. This is the same hospital in which her Mother and Grandmother also practiced nursing.
While at Rhode Island College, Kristen worked two jobs until she successfully received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2004. Her passion for helping others in need was part of her character throughout her entire life. Kristen left a lasting impression on the many lives that she touched, and a legacy of compassion, ambition, and inspiration that encouraged others to join the nursing profession.
The Kristen A. Dupré Memorial Scholarship will assist a student as they pursue their dream of becoming a nurse. All recipients will demonstrate a similar spirit and passion for the nursing profession that Kristen possessed.
Criteria:- The student must be enrolled in the basic baccalaureate nursing program with the intention of achieving a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
- The student must be enrolled full-time at Rhode Island College.
- The student must submit an essay why he/she qualifies for the scholarship.
- The student must demonstrate need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid.
Delta-Upsilon-At-Large Chapter Of Sigma Theta Tau, International
Offers an annual award of $1000 to a full-time student who is or is about to become a member of Delta Upsilon and has completed two or more clinical nursing courses at Rhode island College. Selection is based on scholastic achievement, leadership, creativity, evidence of professional commitment, and financial need. Contact: Dr. Maureen Newman (401) 456-9543.
Long Term Care Nurses Scholarship
Awards three (3) $500 scholarships to individuals who have been employees of long term care facilities for at least 2 years and currently enrolled in an RN program. Contact RI Long Term Care Association, 57 Kilvert Street, Suite 200, Warwick, R.I. 02886-10009 for applications.
Mary E. Love Scholarship
Two awards annually to full-time undergraduate students who have been accepted into the Nursing major at RIC. Applicants must be eligible for enrollment in junior level nursing courses the semester following award of the scholarship or must be eligible for enrollment in senior level nursing courses the semester following award of the scholarship; one award to be given to a student at each level and the student may receive an award more than once. Must have an overall GPA of 3.2, a 3.00 GPA in each nursing course taken, above-average clinical evaluations, evidence of involvement in School of Nursing activities and of service to the college and community, and may be required to participate in an interview at the discretion of the Awards Committee.

Massachusetts Long Term Care Foundation
(MassLTC) Scholarships up to $2000 for enrolled nursing students who are currently working in a nursing home or assisted living residence in Massachusetts and have worked there for at least one year. Applications can be obtained on line at

Massachusetts/Rhode Island League For Nursing
Awards an annual scholarship to a junior or registered nurse student who has lived in Massachusetts or Rhode Island for at least 4 years. The one-time award is based on financial need, ability to maintain a satisfactory academic standing, and ability to contribute to the nursing profession. Doris Mathewson Award
Awards $1000 to a part-time or full-time student in the nursing major at Rhode Island College. Criteria include minimum GPA of 3.0, and 3.0 in each nursing

Frances L. Moore Scholarship
Available to student enrolled in a nursing program at any accredited School of Nursing. You must be a U.S. citizen and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Also, you must demonstrate financial need and membership in the National Student Nurses' Association to be eligible. Scholarship is $2000.
