Tutor and Mentor Program

The School of Nursing provides support for nursing students through the Peer Mentor and Peer Tutor Programs.

Peer Mentor Program: Students who have completed one year of the Nursing Program volunteer to mentor new students (mentees) who have just been accepted and are taking beginning level courses to assist in the transition. Typically the mentors and mentees meet face to face or through email, texts, or phone during the semester for support and advice. Many mentees keep in touch with their mentors following the completion of their first year of nursing courses and become mentors themselves. Accepted nursing students may sign up for a mentor during TEAS testing. Anyone who would like to learn more about being a mentor or mentee can contact Dr. Joanne Costello at jcostello@ric.edu.

Peer Tutor Program: Fellow students provide tutoring in nursing content for students who need extra help in nursing classes.* Tutoring is private, confidential, and conveniently located in Fogarty Life Science 116. Peer tutoring is free and can be individual or in groups, by appointment or walk-in. Anyone who would like to learn more about the peer tutoring program can contact Dr. Joanne Costello at jcostello@ric.edu.
