Welcome

Welcome to the website of the new School of Nursing at Rhode Island College. Formerly a Department of Nursing, the School of Nursing was established in the Fall of 2006. Currently we continue to offer a high quality Bachelor of Science in Nursing and initiated a new Master of Science in Nursing in September 2007.

Teaching is at the center of the mission of the College and the School of Nursing. The nursing faculty are extraordinary professional nurse educators who teach both in the classroom and clinical areas. We partner with all major health care facilities in the state in order to offer the best clinical education possible. Our strong relationships with clinical colleagues facilitate clinical learning experiences for students. Classroom and clinical experiences are coordinated, allowing students the opportunity to apply what they are learning throughout their program.

Our goal is to provide learning experiences that assist students to master the content of professional nursing. We enhance learning with creative teaching and state of the art technology. Simulated clinical learning helps students develop technical skills. In the basic baccalaureate program, computerized testing is used to promote academic achievement and prepare students for the RN licensure exam.

Nursing students at Rhode Island College develop an understanding of what it means to be a professional. The rich liberal education undergraduate students experience in the general education program develops the broad knowledge and critical thinking essential for professionalism. Nursing faculty members are leaders in the professional nursing community and serve as role models for students. Faculty participate in scholarly activities and students develop an appreciation of nursing as a science and an art. We encourage students to participate in our program; involvement promotes academic success and sense of professional commitment.

As we begin another great year, it is my privilege to serve as Dean. I welcome the opportunity to work with faculty, staff, and students to continue to advance Nursing at Rhode Island College. We appreciate your interest in the profession of nursing and in our nursing programs and I invite your comments, questions and suggestions.
Thank you.

- Jane Williams, Ph.D, RN, Dean
