How To Use Our Website

Whether new to the College community or an established grant writer looking for detailed answers on College policy, our website is designed to help you through each step of the grant lifecycle from top to bottom. In fact, if you are so inclined we encourage you read the website like a book! "Next page" links at the bottom of each section allow you to build on your knowledge sequentially and learn the in's and out's of grant writing and management. Of course, you may also jump to any section depending on your needs, and those sections are described below.

Proposal Development

Have an idea for research or sponsored activity? Tell us about it! Our office of professionals skilled in "preaward" (the period prior to receiving funding) and IT functions can help you refine your ideas and maximize your funding search while giving College administration the opportunity to review your goals. We offer free 24/7 access to and email alert capability with SPIN, the Sponsored Programs Information Network, and also offer the Foundation Directory on an appointment basis. Ready to write your proposal? Visit our proposal writing page for tips, tricks and advice from ORGA staff. We'll help you not only get it ready on time, but also give you a good grant-writing framework to advance your professional skills.

Note: You must complete the Proposal Summary and Approval Form prior to submission of any proposal to ORGA and through Rhode Island College.

Once You're Funded

Have you been funded? Congratulations! Of course, as the work of your sponsored activity begins it's also important to be aware of College policy, and our goal is to make your "postaward" (the period after receiving funding) grant management experience a pleasant one. We offer answers to common questions and instructions on how to purchase items, travel and hire students using your grant money in our Spending Your Grant Money section.

Research Compliance

If in the course of research you plan to involve the use of human participants or lab animals, be sure to visit our Compliance pages for important information on staying current with Federal guidelines. We support both the Committee on Human Participants in Research (CHPR) and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). If applicable, committee approvals should be in place before and during the extent of your sponsored programs and/or research.
