Reporting Time, Effort & Costs

Time and effort reporting is an important aspect of grant management. Federal sponsors require that information regarding percentages of effort be reported when an individual is being compensated by or has contributed effort to a program sponsored by Federal sources. Note: It is the personal responsibility of the project director, or PI, to ensure that the information presented in effort reports reflect reasonable, truthful and accurate assessments of their own effort as well as those contributing to their sponsored programs.

If your program is sponsored by Federal funds you should receive effort reports at the end of every budget term. Please complete one form for each employee, contributor or collaborator (including yourself) who is being paid through grant funding. If you do not receive effort reports and believe you should, please contact us or complete and submit the form itself, listed below, to ORGA in Roberts 305.

ORGA Effort Report Form

The Effort Report Form is used to certify percentages of effort made by faculty, contributors and collaborators to Federally-sponsored programs.

Cost-sharing Certification

Another requirement the College holds is that if your award involves cost sharing (What is "cost sharing"?) or matching, regardless of the sponsor, you must certify to the College for auditing purposes that the contributions promised in your proposal were met or are accounted for as accurately as you are able. You can do so at the end of each budget term using the cost sharing certification form.

Again, you are personally responsible for understanding and keeping track of the efforts made within this institution or by collaborating institutions to match or share the financial burdens of your award. This form should be provided to you at the end of each budget term; if not, please contact us.
